Lewis heads ‘Down Under’

Lewis the Lion follows the flight path from Auckland to Brisbane

‘I still can’t believe that little old me is being able to have the most extraordinary journey ever!’ Lewis thought to himself as the plane was flying high above the clouds in the direction of Australia, or as some people called it in the Northern Hemisphere, ‘Down Under’.

He wondered to himself how many more of his dreams he was going to be able to fulfil on this next stage of his incredible journey?

In his mind, he knew he wanted to visit the biggest coral reef on the planet: The Great Barrier Reef off the north-east coast of Australia. He also wanted to learn more about the unique Australian wildlife, there were so many unusual animals and insects that lived there.

What animals do you know that come from Australia?

Here are two of the birds Lewis the Lion saw lots of when he arrived in Brisbane: noisy but colourful rosellas and scavenging, long beaked ibis birds.

He also noticed these beautiful lilac coloured trees in full bloom called Jacarandas.

Another one of his curiosities that he wanted to learn more about was about the Aboriginal culture and if he could he would see if he could afford to travel inland to the place of their sacred homeland: Uluru, also known as Ayres Rock.

However before all of this tremendous exploring and discovering, he had one amazing treat in store for him.

He was going to spend a few days with Helen’s cousin, Alison, Alison’s husband, Anthony and their family in Brisbane.

Lewis the Lion is happy to be with such a happy family: his family!

Their two little girls, Beth, 4 and Elsie, 15 months were very excited about Lewis the Lion’s visit to the point that when Helen came to leave, she nearly left without Lewis! She just couldn’t find him anywhere. Alison and Helen hunted high and low and eventually found Lewis tucked up in bed, snuggled in with Beth!

Alison and Anthony made Helen and Lewis the Lion feel very welcome indeed and did all sorts of fun things with them from going to the local school fĂȘte,

to chilling out on the city centre beach in Brisbane,

from enjoying delicious food and coffees in their café, to playing lots of games with the girls in their playroom.

And best of all, they even took Lewis the Lion and Helen to the fantastic Australian Zoo. Lewis the Lion will look forward to telling you more about that his next blog.

What a fabulous start to Lewis the Lion’s Australian adventure! Lewis truly did still feel like the luckiest lion ever.
