Lewis rocks on some more in Cafayate, Argentina

Yet again Lewis the Lion had a day where he was simply blown away by the scenery around him in North-West Argentina…and there was just so much of it! Lewis thought that many of the places he saw on the road towards Cafayate could quite easily have been a film set and he knows that his photos don’t do the landscape any justice Therefore he tried to take a few videos too. Many of these rock formations that you can see in Lewis the Lion’s pictures were formed over millions of years through a process of wind and water erosion. Lewis the Lion thought it was quite exciting to be a geologist for the day and learn about these rocks. He discovered that many of the rocks were different colours due to their chemical composition, e.g. the orange/red rocks contained ferrous oxide, the white rocks contained calcium and the green rocks contained copper carbonate.

Lewis the Lion especially loved the orange and red rock colours and thought that the way the rocks had been formed over the years was incredible.

Do you have a particular favourite type of rock or rock formation?
